James M. Shea was Curator and Site Manager at Longfellow House–Washington’s Headquarters National Historic Site for twenty years before his retirement in early 2012. To honor Jim, his colleagues and former colleagues had the idea of organizing a series of public lectures about the treasures of the site, and the Friends group gladly joined in this effort.
The James M. Shea Lectures have taken place each year since 2012, usually in the fall. Each year we have invited an expert to speak on some aspect of the House collections, including the furniture, artwork, family letters, wallpaper, and Japanese screens.
All donations to the Friends’ James M. Shea Lecture Fund are tax-deductible. You may contribute by mailing a check to “Friends of the Longfellow House–Washington’s Headquarters” with “Shea Lecture Form” on the memo line to 105 Brattle Street, Cambridge 02138, or by credit card or PayPal below.
