Conserving a Yellow Evening Gown

In the collections of Longfellow House is a yellow evening gown of a style fashionable in the late 1850s.

Curators believe that it was worn by Fanny Appleton Longfellow, the poet’s wife, in the last years of her life. This garment requires careful conservation before the House can put it on display, even for limited periods.

As a tribute to Fanny Longfellow, we have agreed to fund that conservation work. If you wish to join in that effort, please hit the button below and donate whatever amount you choose.
